Not long ago I started a series on 2 Timothy 4:1-5. In the last two discussions, we have discussed verses 1 and 2. Endeavour to check the previous discussions so that we can be on the same page in this piece.
Today, we will be looking at verse 3 of the same chapter. Here is what it reads;
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
This verse of the scripture talks about the congregants and the minister. It is therefore something we all need to attend to. This is important if we intend to pass the faith to the next generation and have it better in their days. Remember that the glory of the latter ought to be than the former as revealed by scripture.
Essence Of The Christian Race
What we have in the Pastoral ministry today is quite unfortunate. Today, we have Pastors who will not preach the truth. Some will preach for months without reiterating the need to prepare for coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. My question is; of what use is the Christian race without ending with Christ in Heaven? If a preacher is not preaching about the second coming of Jesus Christ, it is certain that he is not preparing as well. Why follow such a preacher?
Essence Of The Call
Dear Pastor, what is the essence of your calling if you cannot instill sound doctrine and prepare people for the second coming of Christ? You are called to search for men, bring them into the covenant of life, assist them to maximize their new life and help them to prepare for the second coming of the Lord. Whatever you do outside these truths as a Pastor is of your own and may not be acceptable by God. Please retrace your steps.
The Foolish Congregation
It is saddening to find congregation refusing the truth. They don’t want certain messages to preach. So, they will tell the Pastor what to preach. The question to ask is; are you the one that called the Pastor into ministry? If the congregation have decided to be foolish, the Pastor is supposed to be wise enough to bring them out of their foolishness. I wonder what the Pastor’s excuse will be when he stands before the one that sent him. If you are part of the congregation doing this, repent now.
We know the time Paul is taking about in the above verse is now. Please save yourself from God’s wrath. Don’t continue in this act whether you are a Pastor or congregant. Repent now. Jesus is stretching forth a hand of love to you again for a new beginning.
