As I study one of the Pauline epistles, I saw something that caught my attention. It is worth sharing with Pastors. I pray it will not just make sense but it will be a message to you. One that God will use to restore a more apostolic dimension of our ministry today.
When I read Romans 15:20;
Romans: 15. 20. Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man’s foundation.
After meditating on this, I now understand the reason the Apostles of old operated in the way and manner they did. It also gave a clue why they got the results that followed their ministerial labour. Lets take a look at a few things from here.
More Lands For Christ
This verse opens our eyes to a number of things about the ministry of Paul. One that is very conspicuous is the fact that Paul was careful pitching his tent in an area where someone is already working. This means if Paul were to come into an area and realized that a brother is labouring to get souls for Christ there, he will move to the next town. There are more lands to win for Christ.
Today, we are too clustered in some locations leaving some other places unreached. The Apostles didn’t have to be doing feasibility studies like we do today before they preach in locations. They just moved around and everywhere they touched, they preached. This is easy because they were solely dependent on the Holy Spirit.
Today, we depend on so many things in preaching the Gospel. One of such is the funds, knowledge of the area, our educational background, our exposure etc. These things now determine where we go and how we preach in places. Almost pulling the Holy Spirit out of the whole thing. How can we now get their type of results?
Everyone Is In A Rush
It means the Apostles were never in a rush to get results. They were ready to go from scratch to something evident. Today, even the person starting ministry today wants to thousands of congregation in a day. Everyone is in a rush. This is so bad in our days you wonder if they are actually doing God’s work.
This is the reason some so called men of God are using several tactics outside Holy Spirit to increase the number of their congregation. Some even resort to terrestrial power and witchcraft. All because they want to appear successful. That is a man that has not died to self in a wrong place. He is twice dangerous that the unsaved.
